3 Things To Know Before Asking For A Printing Quotation

The printing industry in Ghana is very active and diversified. Many things change within a matter of days. Because many printing materials and equipment are imported, any slight change in currency affects cost; making it difficult to make quick estimates or quotations.
Many customers , after imagining an idea, would want to find out the cost of it; so they make a visit or phone call to printing company for quotation.(usually, expecting it ASAP).

Below are some things to note before calling in or visiting a printing house for estimates.

1. CREATIVE (ARTWORK)
Do you have a soft-copy artwork? almost the first question any printing hub will ask a client. the creative or artwork is generally, a representation of client's idea that they want to print. The creative will give the printer an idea of what the client wants and if it will be possible to print or not. Usually, the printing company would want the artwork in a printable format. ie. PDF or high resolution format. Costing a creative may depend on two things: 1. whether it is full-colour or not  2. whether the size is large or small. NB: Before you go to any printing house, make sure you have the right creative , if not, request the service of a graphic designer to assist you with designs and sizing.

2. QUANTITY:
In the field of printing, quantity means a lot to the client and the printing company. As a matter of fact, any client who requests for printing will be asked ,HOW MANY ARE YOU PRINTING? This is because the quantity determines the price in printing.
There is a popular printing quote that says,[PRINT MORE FOR LESS]; this means that the more you print, the cheaper it costs. Every printing company will advise their clients to print more in order to pay less. For example, Printing a Shirt may cost 35ghc, but printing 20 more shirts could cost 25gh each. Therefore, instead of clients printing in smaller quantities, it is advised that they print in bulk and save money; except you are only printing samples or you just need that few quantity. In printing, every pesewa counts so before you print anything, you must be sure you are ready to print in bulk so you can save money.

3.  DEADLINE:
Deadline is generally the expected date to finish a work. In printing., deadlines are very important; remember that, as a client, your print work may not be the only work to be printed so if your deadline is a matter of minutes after job request, that will be unreasonable to a large extent. Clients must always ask the turn-around-time for the particular job they have requested in order to give a realistic deadline. If a client insists on a deadline without considering the finish work time by the printing company, disaster can be inevitable. A reasonable deadline can be at least two days after request (depending on the kind of print work).
Clients must note that printing is done by machines and things can go wrong, beyond the control of the machine operator. Power cuts can damage a printing machine and printing work at the same time.
We are aware that clients may have genuine reasons to have their work printed in time, but printing on short notice could have bad consequences because it may not go through much scrutiny. Before a printing work is done, it must be checked for bad prints and cross checked and checked again to make sure the outcome is perfect or close it.

Well, i hope that these tips will help you on your next visit to a printing hub.
